Joiyin is not a dating app. It helps people meet through real-world activities: post or join something nearby, show up in person, without profile photos or weeks of messaging first. Built in Toronto for low pressure: browse, join when ready, leave if it doesn’t fit. That goes for people who’ve lived here for years and people who just arrived.

The founder
Full-time Toronto endodontist who loved coding as a kid, chose dentistry, then taught himself to build again (with AI tools) while keeping his practice. Passion project, not a Silicon Valley transplant story.
Built in Canada
Came to Canada from Guyana as a child. Studied dentistry in the US, then chose to come back. HQ Toronto. Grateful for what Canada made possible, and building here first.
Show up for your city
Post a coffee, a walk, or a skate. Neighbours can join. Same instinct as supporting local places, applied to people: presence in public, not another feed.
What he sees at work
In young patients and dental students, especially after COVID: people are rusty at ordinary in-person interaction, and less active day to day. Joiyin is a simple way to get back to showing up.
Open, not closed
Launch market is multicultural Toronto. The product works for long-time residents, newcomers settling in, and visitors who want a low-pressure way to meet people through an activity.
Not a dating app
Activities first; no profile-photo gallery or swipe matching. Friendship, community, or romance can follow. The app doesn’t optimize for any of those outcomes.
